Do you know that in St-Rémy-de-Provence is the oldest road in France? Go to the Tourist Office for an original itinerary. You will take the via Domitia, an ancient interprovincial road created in 120 BC following ancient Gallic paths. It was criss-crossed by armies, pilgrims, civil servants and merchants until the Middle Ages. The via Domitia, whether you are on foot or by bike, will reveal many secrets: methods of road construction, organization of road stations, "centuriation" of the ancient land registry... Then you will see the Compostela long-distance hiking trail and, finally, you will cross the world of Van Gogh on the side of the capstan of the Saint Paul quarry before returning to the Tourist Office.
